Yes, Basketville has Been Sold! The new owner is busy improving the main building on site. Looks like potential use may include office space, retail, restaurant, and/or dental office. Stay tuned for more news.
Casino Battle Heats Up: While not in Sturbridge, the propsed casino projects in Palmer and Brimfield have our townspeople in hot debate. Mohegan Sun hopes to build a casino in Palmer, while MGM has eyes on Brimfield. Only one casino license is available for this area, so there will be plenty of activity as these two companies fight for their spot.

Free Trees to Replace Those Damaged in Storms: The Sturbridge Tree Warden is offering free saplings to residents who wish to replace trees that were damaged in storms this year. You must order asap. See the
Sturbridge Tree Warden's site for documents and details.
Office Space Available: To be available April 1, 2012, up to 2500 square feet of premium office space in a high-visibility location in Sturbridge. Entire 2500 square feet may be rented, or it can be divided into a 900 square feet space and a 1600 square feet space. Call 508-982-0686 for details.
Snow and Sidewalks: Be reminded that if you are a private property owner, you are responsible for clearing your sidewalks within 24 hours of snow/ice accumulation. The town is reducing the amount of sidewalk clearing that it will do this winter.
Restaurant News: The Ugly Duckling and Whistling Swan have an updated look - check out their new sign. Karin's Kitchen has closed, but a new restaurant, the Old Village Grille, is now open in the same place. And there are murmurings about a new restaurant filling the space at 420 Main Street. Stay tuned!
Sturbridge Police Recognized: Congratulations to the Sturbridge Police Department, on its receipt of a Gold Category Award of Excellence for traffic safety.
Tornado News: The hard work of clean-up and rebuilding is ongoing, and many crews are working day and night to help victims of this astounding ordeal. For those who wish to help, the
American Red Cross is accepting donations for the victims.
Traffic Info via 511: If you are traveling on the Mass Turnpike or other major highways, you can check traffic conditions by dialing 5-1-1. This service has just been made available for the entire state - a fantastic help for travelers.
